Emotional Intelligence is seen by many today as the next evolutionary step for more fully recognizing the value of diversity and inclusion when operating in the global workplace.
What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional Intelligence (EI) refers to the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves, and for managing emotions in us and in our relationships. EI describes abilities distinct from, but complementary to, academic intelligence or the purely cognitive capacities measured by IQ.
Why is EI getting more and more attention?
The power of self-awareness, the importance of resiliency and dealing with adversity, choosing how we think, feel and act. All of these, and more, are elements of assessment tools being used by major corporations and institutions, as a result of the increased recognition of the value of Emotional Intelligence, the growth in workplace diversity and global business, and as a recognized way to invest in the organization’s high potential talent.
What is the Octagon Coaching Model?
The Octagon COACHING Model (TOCM) is based on an appreciation for the value of collaboration, good listening skills, recognition of our support networks, of imagination and new thinking, and the need for a process that is easy to understand and sustain. Through its eight (8) stages or dimensions, it helps individuals to realize and leverage their unique life, work, and educational experiences and talents. Similar to all Emotional Intelligence models, TOCM is wholistic in that it focuses on the need for balance - to look within and understand yourself (self-discovery, introspection), before looking outside (visioning, working with others).
