Diversity Speaker in Focus: Dr. Anita Rowe

AARnita Rowe, Ph.D. has lectured widely, giving keynote speeches, facilitating team building retreats ad teaching seminars across the country and in Europe and Asia. She also continues to teach about diversity, not only through training in client organizations, but also through institutions such as the Intercultural Communication Institute in Portland, Oregon and the Emotional Intelligence and Diversity Institute.

Dr. Rowe, partner in Gardenswartz & Rowe and the Emotional Intelligence and Diversity Institute, began helping organizations with diversity in 1977 when she worked with Los Angeles Unified School District to deal with its diversity challenges at the time of mandatory integration. Since that time she has specialized in the “human side of management” for a variety of regional and national clients, helping them manage diversity, build inclusion, develop productive and cohesive work teams and create inter-cultural understanding and harmony in the workplace.

In addition to direct client relationships, Anita has also co-authored numerous books and resources including Managing Diversity: A Complete Desk Reference and Planning Guide (1993, 1998, 2010), which won the book of the year award from the Society for Human Resource Managers (SHRM) and has served as a primary guide to organizations in structuring their diversity initiatives, as well as Managing Diversity Survival Guide (1994), The Diversity Tool Kit(1994, 2009), Diverse Teams at Work (1995, 2003), Managing Diversity in Health Care (1998), Managing Diversity in Health Care Manual (1999), The Global Diversity Desk Reference (2003) and Emotional Intelligence for Managing Results in a Diverse World (2008).

Anita Rowe is a native of Los Angeles and a graduate of UCLA. After working as a secondary teacher and staff development facilitator in Los Angeles Unified School District for a number of years, she returned to academia and earned her Doctorate of Human Behavior from the United States International University in 1981.
