A dynamic organizational consultant, executive and life coach, facilitator, author, and thought leader Dr. Santalynda Marrero draws on her expertise as a counselling psychologist and 30 years of experience in helping individuals, teams and organizations to propel their careers to the next level. Her belief in story as “data with a soul” that engages mutual regard and leverages talent led her to co-author the book: The Diversity Calling: Building Community One Story at a Time.
Santalynda enjoys coaching across cultures and generations, sharing defining moments that reveal our patterns as a way to move beyond self, or other imposed barriers, to foster successful beginnings and transitions. She has come to recognize that successful people, especially the underrepresented, find creative ways to open doors that might not otherwise be open for them.
Prior to launching SM Consulting in 1998 in California, Santalynda held several internal positions, at Stanford Hospital and Medical Center, Avantek/Hewlett-Packard, Bell Laboratories, and Rutgers University where she received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology. She has provided workshops and conference keynotes and has a repeat presence at Raytheon’s Annual Women’s Conference. She has facilitated women’s circles, roundtables and coached women across the spectrum from entry level through executive level. Santalynda has a broad perspective of women’s issues, gender roles and challenges within cultures and throughout a cross sector of organizations including nontraditional careers such as fire service. She writes extensively with an emphasis on engagement and coaching for women on the blog Fire Breathing Women/Mujeres Que Respiran Fuego.TM
Dr. Marrero’s clients range both nationally and internationally across sectors. Some clients include: PepsiCo and Pepsi International, Port of Oakland, various California city and county government agencies, UCSF Medical Center, United Airlines, M.I.T., National Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Xerox Corporation, University of Michigan, Johns Hopkins University, County of Santa Clara, Stanford Medical Center, University of Texas Medical Center, and various Fire Service organizations. Her lively and inspirational presentation style makes her a highly sought conference keynoter and panelist. Her fluency in Spanish has led and her to consulting work on leadership and diversity/inclusion in Latin America (Brazil, Venezuela, and Mexico) and Puerto Rico.
Santalynda proudly served on the Board of Academic Advancement of Youth for John Hopkins University. For the past twenty years has been an active member of Diversity 2020, a think tank for Diversity & Inclusion and Social Justice practitioners. She is a faculty member at the Summer Institute of Intercultural Communication (SIIC), co-teaching a three-day course on the foundations of intercultural communications.
