Justin Negrón recently presented to the Board of Directors and Executive Director of Family Life Education (Hartford, CT) a comprehensive Business Plan for a new Children’s Fitness/Wellness Center. The project involved the development of a “first of its kind” center to jointly address childhood obesity, motor skills development, and nutritional education for families. The business plan includes an extensive amount of research from existing fitness/wellness/nutrition centers, local, state, and federal health, education, and human services organizations, the community stakeholders, as well as coordinating research conducted by a group of four post-graduate fellows.
“The Family Life Education Children’s Fitness/Wellness Center is designed to integrate physical activity, nutrition education, development, and accessibility to community members in the Parkville and Greater Hartford region, and intended to decrease specific health and developmental issues. This recommended program opportunity (the FLE CF/WC) would address shortages in access to these services in low socioeconomic areas and also increase awareness.”
The business plan has already been utilized to secure the support of the City of Hartford, a member of the U.S. House of Representative, and a collaboration of area nonprofits, recreational and education-based organizations. In addition, an impressive amount of pro bono services have already been committed for architectural, legal, construction, and research purposes.
